This rare pair of nineteenth century Dutch East Indies candlesticks is made of Pterocarpus indicus wood with finely turned carving. The form is directly based on Dutch Baroque metalwork, most commonly brass,
candlesticks, yet the curved and shaped base and feet exhibit a distinct Chinese influence.
